8-6 Early Morning on the Bainbridge Ferry - My friend Doug and I met at 5:30am so we could hop the ferry and head out to the Olympic Peninsula to photograph wildflowers. I rented the Nikon 200 F4 micro for the occasion so was putting it to good use on the ferry. We had more luck on the ferry with the light. Unfortunately we chose the warmest, sunniest day of the year to head up to Hurricane Ridge. We found lots of wildflowers but the lighting for the most part was harsh and a little windy. We made the best of it. ANother challenge was that our car was swarmed by a bunch of flies and bees when we were at the higher altitude so that we really did not want to get out. We enjoyed each other's company and did some scouting and got a few interesting images.

10-30-12 The Aurora Bridge - This is the underside of the Aurora Bridge shot below it in Fremont along the Ship Canal. This was taken as a 5 shot HDR processed in Photomatix and Perfect Photo Suite 6. It was shot using my Panasonic GH2 and the Lumix 20 f 1.7 lens. In answer to yesterday's post, it was shot with my Nikon D800E and the 70-300 VR at 70 mm.
Hope everyone on the East coast is staying safe and making it through Sandy.

11-2-2012 Downtown Seattle Waterfront Reflection - This was taken along one of the waterfront piers. This is a 5 stop HDR processed in Photomatix Pro and Perfect Suite 7. In answer to Paul's question, if I had to pick the software I could not live without outside of photoshop and LR, it would be photomatix pro, Silver efex pro 2 (B&W adjustment) and vivaza 2 for adjustments.

11-4-12 The EMP (Experience Music Project Building at Seattle Center). I was able to get to the Seattle Center today and take this image which is a section of the EMP. The concrete in the lower right hand corner is the monorail track. This was a 5 exposure HDR processed in Photomatix Pro and OnOne Perfect Suite 7.

11-5-12 Another View of EMP. I took this image yesterday as well and it shows reflections in the building as well as some different shapes and again I captured the monorail track in the lower right corner. You can get lost in all the possibilities of shooting this photogenic building.
Thanks for all the many comments on the first image of the EMP and the continued support of my work

11-6-12 Ravenna Fall Color - This was found while I was walking around a Seattle neighborhood looking for fall color after I was told that my doctor was running more than 30 minutes late. It was beautiful out and I decided to see if I could find a nice neighborhood tree. This was taken with my Panasonic GH2 and a 20mm 1.7 Panasonic lens.

11-9-12 EMP3 - This is a 5 exposure HDR processed in Photomatix Pro and Color Effex Pro 4. I like the dark shadow for contrast but not sure what others think about it. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks for the feedback and comments on the Rainbow Falls image.

11-15-12 Matthews Beach Foggy Morning - I was heading out to work this morning and saw such beautiful fall light. There was fog rising out of the lake at sunrise. I decided to take a quick run to the lake at the expense of getting to work a little late and was fortunate enough to photograph this image. I processed this as an HDR done in Photomatix using the natural (fusion) setting which just extends the dynamic range. I did the post processing using the new OnOne Suite 7 where I also added a texture. I think there will be additional images that I will share from this shoot. I used my Panasonic GH2.

2-7-13 The Guild 45 Theater in Wallingford, a neighborhood west of the U Dist in Seattle, Washington.
This was taken with my Nikon 1 V1. Judy (fotoeffects) asked if I like my V1 better than my Nikon D800E. Absolutely not the Nikon D800E is my favorite camera ever. I don't like the V1 better than my Olympus and Panasonic Micro 4/3s but I am shooting with it a lot now since it is the everywhere camera that I am using since I am getting to know it. It is fast and snappy and very basic. It's winning point for me is my ability to use my Nikon afs lens on it with the use of adapter which gives me amazingly long telephoto capability in a small package. The crop factor is 2.7 and the image quality is good. My 70-300 lens becomes around a 180-810.Ilene SamowitzOregon Coast20130204DSC0576

3-30-13 At the Quad at University of Washington. This area is known for the cherry blossoms. I heard that the trees were in bloom so Doug and I went to do some long exposures. Unknown to us, there was an article about the blossoms on the front page of thevSeattle Times. So the area was teeming with people. This is a 5 min plus exposure converted to black nd white. See all the ghosting? Tell me whether you like this and find this effect interesting? I am doing a lot of experimentation with long exposures for my class.

6-7-13 This is from my Smugmug archive. I have a color long exposure of the ferris wheel that I wanted to upload but my internet connection is not allowing for upload until either something gives or they fix it on Sunday morning. I am bummed since I had hoped to hit the road for an overnight in my new to us RV. I guess now I can spend a little more time trying to organize it and to maybe do a day trip on Sunday before we head to the Palouse later this month.
This is from the Hat Shop near the Pike Place Market. I used an interesting frame. I wish I remember from where. That's the trouble about dipping into archives. From PAD2013
