6-16-12 Black and White Stonehenge - There is a replica of Stonehenge on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge near Maryhill, WA. The textures on the colors are very interesting.

6-15-12 Lone Ranch Beach - Boardman State Park, Brookings, Oregon
6-14-12 A textured and soft-focused poppy. This is not the usual photo that I take or process. This was taken at f1.4 so the depth of field is razor thin giving that glowing and dreamy effect. I added some texture as well to alter the reality of the flower.
Barnacles in Black and White - 6-13-12
These barnacles were found on the Trinidad Bay Beach in California. The textures and the patterns are emphasized by converting to black and white. This was shot with a Nikon D8ooE and a 70-180 Nikon macro. This lens was discontinued by Nikon but has risen to cult stature.
June 12-12 - Decaying Drag Line outside of Astoria, Oregon

MacKerricher State Park in Fort Bragg, California is a thrilling place to visit and I am sure I will be posting more. It is noted for it's seal nursery and I was able to observe these wondrous mammals at a relatively close distance. They have the area roped off to make sure that humans do not get within the safe distance and dogs are banned from the beach. This image was taken at Rainbow Rock overlook just north of Harris Beach State Park, Brookings, Oregon. I converted the image with Silver Effex Pro 2. Another stunning part of the southern Oregon Coast. The color version can be seen at http://smu.gs/KltMuE
Trinidad Head Lighthouse, Trinidad, California

Anchor Bay Sunset, taken in Mendocino County California. This is a wonderful area with a nice coved beach. It is considered to be in a banana belt due to a number of factors and it tends to have warmer and less foggy weather than areas around it. We were able to camp with our little RV within feet of this beach. Posted 6-6-12.
Along the 804 Trail in Yachats, Oregon. On this trail you can take a walk and view the dramatic surf or a sunset along this historic 804 Trail. The north section of this trail begins at Smelt Sands State Wayside and winds north 3/4 mile where it meets a 7-mile stretch of sandy beach. You find Sitka Spruce and Shore Pine forest, ocean front meadows, riparian and wetland areas, and a small pebble beach. Whales can be seen during the right time of year. During the higher tides and storms the waves come crashing in at full fury along the lava fingers. The lava flows created a multitude of crevices, inlets, holes, small caves and other irregular shapes. Waves pound into these rocks sounding off in thunder and spouting water all around. You can walk on these rocks but signs are posted everywhere to be wary of sudden high waves that might appear out of nowhere. This trail used to be an old road that went between Yachats and Alsea Bay. Posted on 6-5-12.
Along the Samish River, Skagit Valley, Washington
This is a favorite haunt about a n hour north of where I live. The Samish River will soon be emptying out to Samish Bay. This area is very well known for its first class winter birding. It is a little north of the tulip, daffodils, and iris fields. We went to look at the iris fields but they were not showy at all even though one of the fields was in peak bloom. So I wound back to a familiar scene and shot this about 10 different ways. Every time I go each perspective is different. I don't ever get tired of shooting this location. Yesterday it was the greens. It was also a different camera my Nikon D8ooE with the Zeiss 50 1.4 Planar.

6-2-12 Rockaway Beach Clouds Looking North - thanks for all the wonderful comments on yesterday's image of the sky at Rockaway Beach, Oregon looking west. It was a totally sky day at the ocean that morning. This was shot with the legendary Nikon 50 1.2 AIS on a Nikon D800E.
6-1-12 This is another image taken on the Oregon Coast over the Memorial Day weekend. The clouds were spectacular that day and added lots of interest and drama to the scene. I thought I would try this in a poster presentation.

This is one of my favorite Southern Oregon Beaches. It is fantastic at low tide. It is one of the beaches that are a part of Boardman State Park.

The Mary D Hume, Gold Beach, Oregon
The Mary D. Hume, built at this spot in 1881, had the longest active service of any commercial vessel on the Pacific coast, a total of 97 yrs as freighter, whaling vessel, to towboat service. She, broke after being docked here, and the wreck remains.
This image is similar to one I posted a few days ago that got thumbed out of the dailies. Slightly different perspective. Love the overcast light and the reflections and the ability to saturate the colors.

Crescent City View to Castle Rock
I am still having issues with my photos disappearing. I thought the thumbs down issue was solved. This one disappeared as well as one a few days ago. I will comment on it to see if I can

May 19, 2102 - This is one of my favorite views in Crescent City. I love Castle Rock. It is a haven for all kinds of wildlife including harbor seals, sea lions, pelicans, comorants, and other pelagic birds.

This is one interesting place to photograph in Gold Beach. This time when I visited the Rogue River was very calm allowing for great reflections. This area is close to the mouth of the river. The day was overcast allowing for some interesting saturation of colors.
